Brazilian oil firm asks engineering firm to halt oil rig operations after explosion

Brazil-based oil and gas firm Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras has asked local engineering firm Odebrecht S.A.’s offshore drilling unit to halt operations of a rig following an explosion in June, Hart Energy reported citing Reuters. Petrobras said that it could cancel the contracts related to the Norbe VIII rig in the Marlim oil field due to the accident. Roberto Simoes, chief executive of Odebrecht Oleo e Gas S.A., said that the request to halt the rig came after an internal Petrobras commission studied the causes of the accident.
