Cyclone Debbie insurance bill exceeds $1 billion

Rob Whelan, chief executive of the Insurance Council of Australia, said that local insurers have received nearly 69,000 claims related to cyclone Debbie amounting to nearly $1.5 billion Australia ($1.2 billion), News.com.au reported. More than 75% of the claims have been paid out and more than 31,000 homes and businesses have been repaired or had payments settled, Mr. Whelan said. The cyclone struck Queensland and New South Wales in March.
